The Safe Routes website features maps that show the safest way for kids to walk or bike for any school in Utah. These maps are updated yearly, and are a great place to begin planning a safe ride to school.

Free Bikes 4 Kidz Utah takes a sustainable approach by collecting, refurbishing, and giving away bicycles to children most in need. Giveaways happen yearly in December. Consider volunteering with them or apply to receive free bikes for kids!

The Utah High School Cycling League facilitates the development of interscholastic cycling teams/clubs for grades 7 – 12 and provide the education, training, licensing and insurance for coaches and volunteers. They provide a high-quality mountain bike racing experience that emphasizes the value of each participant (no one is benched), camaraderie among peers, a positive sporting behavior and the cultivation of health over competition.

The Brain Injury Alliance of Utah and Robert J. DeBry- Attorney both generously offer low cost helmet options for children and adults in Utah.

Adaptive Cycling Resources

Utah’s vast geography and landscape provide year-round outdoor recreation opportunities.  If you want big mountains, we got them.  Prefer to play on water?  Have lots of options too.  Bike Utah is glad there are multiple groups providing equal access, equipment, and programming for people with disabilities so they may enjoy the outdoors.  While the following listed organizations have adaptive bicycle programs, they offer so much more.  Check them out!

Wasatch Adaptive Sports

Established in 1977, Wasatch Adaptive Sports (WAS) provides resources and support for people with disabilities and their families to enjoy outdoor recreational activities.  WAS offers year-round programming across multiple disciplines including skiing, yoga, water sports, and of course, bicycling. “Wasatch Adaptive Sports programming focuses on increasing independence and mobility in a social environment.”

National Ability Center

“The National Ability Center empowers individuals of all abilities by building self-esteem, confidence and lifetime skills through sport, recreation and educational programs.”  The NAC offers a broad range of adaptive recreation activities, and their Splore Outdoor Adventures program organizes outdoor excursions which focus on exciting activities such as rock climbing, mountain biking, and rafting.  In response to Covid-19, check out the NAC’s bike rental program, Strava, and virtual programming to keep you active.  Whether an outdoor enthusiast or an aspiring athlete, the NAC is there for you.

Common Ground Outdoor Adventures

“Common Ground Outdoor Adventure’s mission is to provide life-enhancing outdoor recreation for youths and adults with disabilities.”  Based in Logan and with a facility at nearby Beaver Mountain Ski area, CGOA offers numerous opportunities to enjoy the natural surroundings.  They also host events with schools and other interested parties.
