Bike Utah awarded the David R. Keller Sustainability Prize
National data suggests bicycling is dominated by utilitarian cyclists, those who ride for practical purposes like getting to work, grabbing groceries, dropping your kids off at school, etc., and we believe that Utah is no exception.
Bike Utah was recently awarded the David R. Keller Sustainability Prize from Utah Valley University, to compare where different underrepresented groups exist within the state and how they are affected by the existence or non-existence of bicycle facilities.
The grant will allow Chris Wiltsie, the 1,000 Miles Program Director, to complete equity analyses related to bicycling and employ an intern to support this work. These analyses will be used to continue supporting more robust and appropriate bicycle facilities in areas where people must ride out of necessity, e.g. within urban cores, low-income areas. They will also more accurately show how and where bicycling is being used. Stay tuned for our results!
