About Us

MISSION

Our mission is to make Utah a better place to ride.

VISION

We envision a Utah where complete networks of bike lanes, paths, and trails contribute to livable, healthy communities, allowing everyone to ride regardless of age, ability, race, or income.

Bike Utah collaborates with all levels of government, organizations, agencies, businesses, and the general public to develop active transportation plans, educate thousands of children and adults, increase safety through legislation, and improve quality of life for residents and visitors with more bike lanes, paths, and trails.

Five Elements

1. Complete Cycling Infrastructure

Utahns face risks sharing roads with vehicles. Protected bike networks are a priority for underrepresented groups, while recreational areas improve accessibility for all.

4. Thriving Cycling Community

Seeing relatable cyclists shows Utahns that biking is viable for transport and recreation. A growing cycling culture fosters community, connection, and normalizes biking as a regular activity.

In 2022-2023, Bike Utah surveyed over 200 underrepresented Utahns in cycling, identifying the “Five Elements” of successful bike communities. These elements guide our work in engagement, safety education, policy advocacy, and transportation planning.

2. Access to Gear and Maintenance

Bicycles can be costly, and maintenance challenging. Programs like bike shares help, but addressing barriers to bike shops and offering community repair spaces can keep more bikes safe and functional.

5. Inclusive Planning and Policy

Planning policies shape the built environment, greatly influencing ridership. Community-wide involvement, not just from cyclists, is essential for driving needed changes.

3. Education and
Information

Cyclists and drivers share responsibility for safety. Educating drivers and guiding riders to safe, well-detailed routes can boost cycling confidence and meet new riders' expectations.
