The Burr Trail: Big Views, Fast Miles, Almost No Cars

State Route 12 crosses many of Utah’s most scenic landscapes: from Panguitch; through Red Canyon; past Bryce Canyon; over the The Hogsback and Boulder Mountain; and into Torrey. The next time you’re rolling through Boulder (or stopping by Hell’s Backbone Grill), you would be well advised to take a spin on the Burr Trail Road.

The Burr Trail Road winds 30 miles from Boulder to the Capitol Reef National Park. Along the rolling roads you pass through countless sandstone vistas and canyon drainages. An out and back ride of 60 miles covers almost 5,000 feet of elevation. Best of all, the vehicle traffic on the road is slim, making for an amazing ride.

If you are looking for more than 60 miles and if your tires are wide enough, you can keep riding into Capitol Reef where the asphalt turns to dirt.
